Announcing Miranda and I’s World Tour
In December, 2020, Miranda and I went on what we expected to be a short beach walk which ended up lasting over 2 hours.
We’d decided that we were going to travel the world together. We’d start in between March and May of 2022 and we’d have no end date.
We were going to live in Airbnbs, give up our leases in Columbus, and work remote in that different time zone.
That’s all we knew.
Miranda was ready to go sooner than March of 2022, but I needed to put some organization and structure in place in my business before I felt comfortable with being 5 hours, or more, ahead or behind. I told her “I want to have someone who’s responsibility is to drive new revenue and sales and someone who oversees our operations.” I told her it would take me a year to do that. I wanted to be largely out of the day-to-day so that I was not the bottleneck of the business.
Now, we know there’s a term called “digital nomads” which perfectly describes what we are doing. There are companies that organize trips for digital nomads to different areas (and we will be doing some). Lots of people are doing this and have done it. Now, even Brian Chesky, the founder of Airbnb, is a digital nomad.
Over the last year, we hired a President to run the day-to-day of Teammate AI, published a book, hired a PR team to help me promote the book, hired a lead generation company (we never had one before), hired a digital sales funnel team who also manages programmatic ads, and we’re in the process of hiring another developer, a project coordinator, and a sales person.
We both have given up our leases and are currently living with our respective parents, which has been a wonderful experience that I highly recommend for 20-somethings. I’ve really enjoyed myself, my parents have enjoyed it, and I know Miranda and her parents have enjoyed it.
We are leaving on March 12 for Scotland. Then, we’ll do 3 days in London, then we are meeting my family in Italy. From there, her parents will join us in Spain (assuming it all works out), then we’re off to Portugal, then who knows. Maybe Turkey. Maybe Bulgaria. Maybe Thailand or Singapore or Bali. We’re spending at least a month in all locations except London. Even Spain and Portugal might change. Who knows! We are going with the flow.
We have no end date. In January 2023, we are headed to South America. Then, who knows.
We’re both 100% remote. Both our day-to-days run entirely off a computer. We can block certain days/nights for meetings so we can sync with our teams and clients, but we don’t need to work USA hours every day. We don’t even need to every week.
Loom works great for asynchronous communication, as does Slack and Teams. At Teammate, we are adding more dashboards monthly to give us a better sense of how the business is performing. I can check those whenever I want.
So, we are leaving the country soon.
We will be back for events here and there, but for the foreseeable, and possibly not foreseeable, future we will be traveling the world.
